Changing Site URLs From HTTP To HTTPS

Changing Site URLs From HTTP To HTTPS

We usually face issue when we install SSL certificate and google starts mentioning duplicate records in website. Actually, website will become accessible using http as well as non-http url, confusing google and other SEO checking sites making them feel like duplicate records.

Solution in Joomla:

Two steps are required for fixing this issue.

  1. Open admin area, click on System -> Global Configurations. Open “Server” tab. Select ‘Force Https’ to ‘Entire Site’.
  2. Next step is a file level change. Open .htaccess file and add two lines of code and you are done. here is the code:

RewriteEngine On

RewriteCond %{HTTP_HOST} ^ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ https://www. /$1 [L,R=301,NC]

Don’t forget to change with your site name

What does these two lines say:

Very simple, condition says, if this url found replace it will rule mentioned in second line.
